This is a rare early 20th century bronze reduction of the famed Borghese Gladiator marble in the Louvre Museum.  It was awarded in 1926 to one of the winners of individual and team events at the ICAAAA college track and field awards at Soldiers Field in Cambridge, Massachusetts.  It makes a wonderful addition to any important collection of historical sports memorabilia.  Please be sure to click on the thumbnail images above to see multiple views.

The sculpture depicts a Roman warrior in the midst of a battle, with his arm out in defensive posture as he readies himself for the attack.  It is an apt metaphor for collegiate athletics.  On the front of the sculpture's base reads "Fiftieth Annual Track and Field Championship".  On the rear reads "Soldiers Field, Cambridge, Mass., May 29, 1926."  On both of the sides of the bronze base is the abbreviated name of the Intercollegiate Association of Amateur Athletes of America.

Cast of pure bronze by Roman Bronze Works in New York, the sculpture stands 13½" high by 9½" wide by 12" deep (35 cm high x 24 cm wide x 31cm deep).  It weighs 15 lbs. (6.5 kg).  It is finished with a beautiful caramel brown patina, worn off in places over the decades and with some oxidation particularly around the raised letters on its base.

This is a fine old bronze sculpture, made to high standards by America's premier foundry of the time.  We guarantee your satisfaction.
