"Lions Bookends" by Antonio Canova
Item No.: 167M
These lions were originally sculpted by Antonio Canova (Italian, 1757-1822) in larger scale for the tomb of Pope Clement XIII in St. Peter's Basilica. The sleeping lion pictured on the right is symbolic of the Pope's moderation; the vigilant lion pictured on the left represents his energetic work. Please click on the thumbnail images above to see additional views of these stunning bookends.
We have cast the lions in our own California art foundry using 19 lbs. (8.5 kg) of pure bronze. They are finished with a classic bronze patina in tones of browns and black. Each lion stands 5½" high by 10½" wide (14 cm high x 26 cm wide).
These bronze bookends are fine classics that will last for hundreds of years. We guarantee your satisfaction.
