Attired in buckskins and a headdress of tobacco leaves, Big Chief Stogie offers up a fresh bundle of cigars in one hand while the other holds a lowered tomahawk.  He is a nostalgic symbol of commerce and hospitality ... and, of course, good smokes ... from the days of the Wild West.

Big Chief Stogie was carved in the early 1920's by Samuel Anderson Robb.  Robb was born in Scotland in 1851 and died in New York City in 1928.  Robb enjoyed an illustrious career as one of the leading wood carvers of the day, creating many of the best figureheads for clipper ships and carvings for commercial storefronts throughout the United States.  When his rare wooden Cigar Store Indians come onto the market today, they fetch prices exceeding $50,000.

The original wood carving of Big Chief Stogie was brought to us by a private collector in the Chicago area.  He had inherited the piece from his grandfather who had kept it standing outside of his tavern and pool hall in the historic gold-mining town of Cripple Creek, Colorado.

A Cigar Store Indian has never before been cast in bronze.  Very aware of treading new ground, our experts created a mold that successfully captured the intricate wood grain and splitting seen in the original.  Please click on the thumbnail images above to see additional views, and then click on any image to enlarge it.

Completely authentic in detail, we have cast Big Chief Stogie in our own California art foundry using 80 lbs. (36 kg) of pure bronze.  Only 95 will be cast. Each is individually numbered in the bronze and carries our Art Bronze foundry seal.  Big Chief Stogie stands 40” tall by 11½" wide by 10½" deep (102 cm high x 29 cm wide x 27 cm deep).

This is a fine bronze sculpture, made to the highest standards.  We guarantee your satisfaction.
