This iconic Art Deco sculpture was created by Jean de Roncourt, the most famous French sculptor of the male figure in the 1920s and 1930s. Entitled Le Bendeur (or, in English, The Bender), it depicts an athletic man dressed in a loincloth bending a large metal rod by hand. This sculpture is widely regarded as de Roncourt's best work. It is impressive not only because of its unusually large size, but also for the quality of the sculpting. Please be sure to click on the "View More Images" link above to see this sculpture's terrific details in the face, fingers, hair, etc.
This is an original French casting of Le Bendeur in the white metal known as spelter. The sculpture is finished with its original painted patina in tones of greens and browns.
Le Bendeur is mounted onto a black marble base. Combined with its base, the sculpture stands 21" high by 24" wide (53 cm high x 61 cm wide).
This truly is a must-have for any serious collector of Art Deco sculpture who appreciates the male form! We guarantee your satisfaction.
