"Le Bendeur" by J. de Roncourt

This iconic Art Deco sculpture was created by Jean de Roncourt, the most famous French sculptor of the male figure in the 1920s and 1930s. Entitled Le Bendeur (or, in English, The Bender), it depicts an athletic man dressed in a loincloth bending a large metal rod by hand. This sculpture is widely regarded as de Roncourt's best work. It is impressive not only because of its unusually large size, but also for the quality of the sculpting. We have cast Le Bendeur in our own California art foundry using over 30 lbs. (13 kg) of pure bronze. It is from a limited edition of just 100 castings, with the unique number of each sculpture stamped into the bronze. The sculpture boasts a rich, deep brown patina finish with subtle highlights that emphasize the artist's assured modeling.
Le Bendeur is mounted onto a stunning marble base that perfectly complements the color and Art Deco theme of the bronze. Combined with its base, the sculpture stands 21" high by 24" wide (53 cm high x 61 cm wide).
