This is a fine bronze reduction by Barbedienne of the famous Michelangelo marble.

The original marble statue, completed by Michelangelo in 1515, forms part of the tomb of Pope Julius II.  It stands in the church of San Pietro in Vincoli on the Esquiline Hill in Rome.  Please click on the thumbnail images above to see additional views of this beautifully detailed sculpture.

This particular bronze sculpture was cast in Paris in the 19th century by the famed Barbedienne foundry.  Moses weighs 7 lbs. (3 kg) and stands 9½" high by 4¼" wide (24 cm high x 11 cm wide).  The bronze is inscribed "BARBEDIENNE, FONDEUR" and has the A. Collas reduction seal.  It has a lovely caramel brown patina.

Condition is very good, with only some small indentations on the left bicep that can be seen in the photos, as well as some minor discolorations to the patina consistent with its age.  This is a fine bronze sculpture, made to the high standards for which Barbedienne is known.  We guarantee your satisfaction.
