The Council of War is the crowning achievement of famed Civil War-era sculptor John Rogers (American, 1829-1904).
This sculpture depicts President Abraham Lincoln, General Ulysses S. Grant and Secretary of War Edwin Stanton reviewing Grant's plans of operation for the Army of the Potomac.  Rogers captures Stanton wiping his spectacles as Lincoln deeply contemplates the mapped plan and Grant looks on.  Please click on the thumbnail images above to see additional views, and then click on any image to enlarge it.
Rogers created three versions of this bronze sculpture.  This version -- known as Type B -- was the most popular and sold for the highest amount when first cast in 1873.  Today, it is widely prized as the sculpture best depicting this moment in history.
We have cast The Council of War in our own California art foundry using 110 lbs. of pure bronze.  The sculpture is finished with a traditional patina in tones of brown and amber.  Mounted onto a black marble base, it stands a full 24" high by 19" wide (62 cm high x 48 cm wide).  This sculpture is available in a limited edition of just 100 castings.  Each piece is individually numbered and we have cast our Art Bronze foundry seal into its bronze base.
This is a fine bronze sculpture, made to high standards.  We guarantee your satisfaction.
