"The Derby Winner" by Pierre-Jules Mêne
|
Item No: 065
|
Pierre-Jules Mene (French, 1810-1879) sculpted his famous Vainqueur du Derby or The Derby Winner in 1863. Ours is a particularly fine contemporary casting with great detail. The most popular of Mene's racing studies, The Derby Winner is thought to represent the 1862 Derby Winner Caractacus.
We have cast this horse sculpture using over 80 lbs. (36 kg) of pure bronze in our own California art foundry. It boasts a deep, rich patina finish . The Derby Winner is mounted onto a green marble base, stands a majestic 28½" high by 27½" wide (72 cm high by 70 cm wide), and is signed "P.J. MENE" in the bronze. Please be sure to click on the "View More Images" link above to see additional views.
This is a top quality work of art that will endure to be treasured by generations of horse lovers to come. We guarantee your satisfaction.
