Pierre-Jules Mêne (French, 1810-1879) sculpted his famous Vainqueur du Derby or The Derby Winner in 1863.  Ours is a particularly fine contemporary casting with great detail.  The most popular of Mene's racing studies, The Derby Winner is thought to represent the 1862 Derby Winner Caractacus.  Please click on the thumbnail images above to see additional views and then click on any image to enlarge it.

We have cast this horse sculpture in our own California art foundry using 80 lbs. (36 kg) of pure bronze.  The sculpture is finished with a rich patina finish in tones of browns.  Mounted onto a green marble base, The Derby Winner stands a majestic 28½" high by 27½" wide (72 cm high by 70 cm wide).  The sculpture is signed "P.J. MENE" in its bronze base.

This is a fine bronze sculpture, made to high standards.  We guarantee your satisfaction.
