This bronze sculpture of a bare-chested young warrior forging his armor was sculpted circa 1890 by André Paul Arthur Massoule (French, 1851-1901). It is known by several titles, including Travail Gaulois (Gallic Work in English), Warrior Forging his Arms and Viking Armorer. This is an original French bronze casting from the period. It retains its beautiful original greenish-brown patina. The sculpture stands 19" (48 cm) high. Condition is very good other than slight surface wearing and discoloration consistent with age.
